The Property
The pet friendly brick and flint cottage in the heart of Happisburgh is perfect for summer breaks or winter escapes alike and is ideally located just 10 minutes from a glorious sandy beach.

More details

The Gig House sleeps two adults and a baby/toddler. We welcome pets - up to two large or medium dogs or three small dogs, two cats and any pet in a cage - and charge £25 per dog or cat per visit.

It is located in one of Norfolk's most picturesque coastal villages. The village itself is now famous for the oldest evidence of human activity outside of Africa with footprints discovered on the beach to be over 900 thousand years old. The cosy local pub, within 50 yards of the cottage, echoes the local connection with Sherlock Holmes author Arthur Conan Doyle who visited many times and wrote one of the detective mysteries here. There is also a small shop and post office in the village.

The local villagers will proudly boast of the number of other illustratrious visitors who have been drawn to this unique place from Robinson Cruso author Daniel Defoe, cricketer W.C. Grace, sculptors Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, poet John Betjeman, writer PD James and even the Queen Mother once arriving by helocopter to visit a cousin who lived in the village. The village is a must for those who enjoy the English countryside and its beaches in all seasons.

Guest accommodation
Step down from entrance. Ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen area with wood burner in living room (initial fuel included) and underfloor heating. Stairs to first floor: 1 double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet.

Parking is in the courtyard or on the very quiet lane outside the house. Bus stop 50 m from The Gig House but with an infrequent country service. Train station 7 miles away. We live across the courtyard and, hopefully, will be there to welcome you and to deal with any questions or requests at any time during your stay.

Other things to note
Week long bookings usualy start on a Saturday and short breaks start on a Monday or Friday, except at Christmas. We do not accept short breaks (less than a week) at peak times (school holidays) unless the booking is last minute. Out of season we can be more flexible with length of stay and start day.
